SPRINGS’ A POPPIN

 

         

On Saturday, May 1st, from 9 a.m. until noon at the West Point Square Shopping Center the Chamber will sponsor “Springs’ A Poppin”, a community celebration event offering all that is needed to renew your lawn or garden.

A variety of area businesses will be participating, Robin Seeterlin and Elaine Wood of “Bloomers”, Billy Berry of “Berry’s Produce” and Paul & Regina Feucht of “Tidewater AG Enterprises” will have plants, flowers, veggies and shrubs on hand as well as great gardening advice and planting tips. 

Adding the finishing touches to the flowers, plants and shrubs of your choice, Boy Scout Troop 340 will provide a variety of bark products.

Other vendors for the day include, Americare Plus, BayLands Federal Credit Union, Bubble Duck Books, Integrity Food Group, Parent-Child Development Corp., Sherry Siewert, Students Without Drugs, and the West Point Police Dept.

To make the morning fun for the whole family, the chamber has also arranged children activities which includes a Jumping Castle from “Rivah Bounce”.

                               CHAMBER MEETING

 

The next general membership meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 6th at 7:00 p.m. in the Downtown Business Center.

CRAB CARNIVAL

 

          Plans are underway for the 28th Annual Crab Carnival and the committee has been meeting monthly.  We still can use your help!  Anything is appreciated whether it is a donation from your business or a couple of hours of your time.  Call the Chamber office at 804-843-4620 if you are interested in helping with this event.

 

 

 

                                       CHAMBER SCHOLARSHIP

 

The West Point/Tri-Rivers Chamber of Commerce is offering four (4) Community Service Scholarships in the amount of $750.00 each to a graduating senior in each of the following school high schools: King and Queen, King William, New Kent and West Point.

 

Students should see their guidance counselor for an application or go to the Chamber’s website:  www.westpointvachamber.com.

 

Application deadline is May 17.  Notification of winners will be on June 1.  If you have any questions, please call Janice McGowan at the Chamber office, 804-843-4620.

 

A special fund-raising auction was held in March to fund the scholarships and $3,000 was raised during this economically difficult period as a result of the many dedicated businesses in the tri-rivers area.  Brinkley and Betty Estis donated their auctioneering services, along with Gene Jenkins assistance and the following businesses provided the donations to make the annual auction a success:  Anna’s Pizza, Antonio’s Pizza, BayLands Federal Credit Union, BB&T Bank,  Citizens & Farmers Bank,  Chief Carl Custalow,  Divin’ Off the Dock, Sam E. GOLF TOURNAMENT

 

                Our 10th Annual Chamber Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, May 21st.  If you would like to participate, or sponsor a tee, see attached application.  If you have any questions or would like to donate a door prize, please call the Chamber office at 804-843-4620 or Virginia Blaska at 804-843-2444.
